Journal Prompt Addiction (Russel Brand)

Listening to Russel Brand's interview about the human addiction to sex (March 14, 2009), he speaks on how it has become nothing but a "consumable". By consumable I mean that it is "no longer presented to us as a necessity, but as a lifestyle. Brand first recognizes that there are people who beleive that sex cannot be an addiction & that he can understand this because sex is a "biological necessity" for our species. However, he believes, the constant stimulation of these needs can lead to a compulsive disorder. I believe that he speaks on this issue is not only because it is in his new book, but because he went through it himself & feels a somewhat need to get it "off his chest" so to speak. Brand's audience definitely is not children but people who might be going through the same issue. To find this interview go to www.npr.org and search Russel Brand.

Here are two questions to think about :
1) If sex is an addiction, do you think there might be prohibitions made? Why or Why not?
2) Is there anything that you think might be considered an addiction? Make a list of them, explain why it's a addiction, & give a possible solution
